St. Louis, MO – July 2012.
Davenport’s riverfront continues to rake in the honors — this time earning a spot on Big River Magazine’s list of The Top Six Best Inviting Riverfronts along the Mississippi.
The Davenport riverfront was ranked No. 2 in the July/August issue of the regional magazine, behind Minneapolis. Making the rest of the list were: Lake City, Minn., at No. 3; LaCrosse, Wis., No. 4 and Bellevue and Guttenberg, Iowa, tied at No. 5.
Reggie McLeod, the publisher and editor of Big River Magazine, said the most inviting riverfronts were chosen by author Dean Klinkenberg, who has written a series of travel books under his Mississippi Valley Traveler brand. McLeod said the impetus for the story was a list that Klinkenberg first published on his website of the nicest and least nice riverfronts. But the Big River story “only features the nicest” riverfronts.
The criteria included three qualities: a riverfront that is scenic; a riverfront that is easy to reach; and “once you are there, you have something to do beyond staring at the river,” McLeod said.
The recognition comes on the heels of Davenport’s selection last month as one of the top 11 riverfronts in the nation as determined by BudgetTravel.com.
